The french had developed allies and trading partners with many Native Americans
Ohio river valley
Both the Britain and France claimed the Ohio River Valley was theirs.
This is what led to the French and Indian war.
The governor of Virginia sent a militia to drive out the French, headed by 21 year old George Washington.
Washington set up his own fort, called Fort Necessity. While the French, with their Native American allies, defeated Washington, but the colonists viewed him as a hero for taking on the French.
The French used the alliances they had with the Natives to help them fight.
The natives showed the French how to use guerrilla warfare (Guerrilla warfare is a form of irregular warfare in which a small group of combatants, such as paramilitary personnel, armed civilians, or irregulars, use military tactics including ambushes, sabotage, raids, petty warfare, hit-and-run tactics, and mobility to fight a larger and less-mobile traditional military.)
Benjamin Franklin, developed a plan for a centralized union or government to coordinate war efforts. With delegates representing 7 of the colonies, this gathering marked the first time the colonies organized together.
The meeting failed in its objectives, as colonial assemblies didn’t want to give up any power to a national government, but this gathering would mark the beginning of the states viewing themselves as “united.”
