  • "Indian" Removal - Trail Of Tears
  • The Trail of Tears was a harsh journey of forced relocation for the Native Tribes. Many of the people died during the journey, and most tribes were forced to leave at gunpoint.

  • Thomas Jefferson signed the Louisiana purchase because though it doubled the size of the US, and gave them many resources including the New Orleans Port for trading. Even though the US got a cheap deal, it was also a good deal for France because they needed money after the war with Britain.

  • When Mexico fought against Texas's annexation, US set up troops on Texas's borders, causing tension and many border disputes, including the Battle of Buena Vista.
  • The Trail of Tears affected the US settlers because it gave them access to more land and resources that they forces the native tribes to give up. However, when the Cherokee tribe was forced to leave their land, they did not want to because to Native tribes, including the Cherokee tribe, land wasn’t just land; it was their home, life, agriculture, tradition, and much more, and nothing could truly replace that.

  • Americans risked their lives while traveling on the Oregon trail with wagons holding all of their valuables.

  • When Santa Anna took over and changed the Mexican constitution, the “Texans” revolted because Santa Anna's rules effected their way of life, such as religion, enslavement, and governing. However, the Mexican government and Moses Austin made an agreement when the “Texans” when they moved into the territory of Texas, and the Mexicans as well as Santa Anna believed that the “Texans” were cheaters and liars because they were not following these rules, so they decided to tighten the laws on the settlers as a way to show their power over the settlers.

  • As American Settlers progressed further west, they found that there was a large stretch of land from the east to west side so they built a railroad to travel across that space.

  • When Texas was annexed into the United States, Mexico resisted because they believed that Texas was not rightfully independent, and losing Texas effected their amount of territory. On the other hand, America wanted Texas because not only did it add to their territory and Manifest Destiny, but winning this war proved just how much stronger America now was.

  • Americans risked their lives to get into Oregon territory and settlements, but they did this because not only did this addition to land complete manifest destiny, but there were also some very valuable resources, most importantly gold. However, there were Native tribes in this land that had lived there for many generations, and Crazy Horse, the leader of the Sioux tribe, talked about how he only wanted to live in peace, because his tribe hadn't bothered the US settlers until the settlers became violent with them.

  • As the US settlers progressed west, they hunted buffalo for fun, wasting the buffalo's resources and offending many Native tribes such as the Sioux because the natives did not believe in taking advantage of natural resources. On the other hand, the American Settlers saw the railroad and westward expansion as a sign of progress and dominance.
