Eragon showed irresponsibility and immaturity as the book progressed constantly, an example is his first encounter with Urgals and using magic. Eragon and Brom had arrived at Yazuac. They found corpses and pieced together that Urgals had attacked. However, in a few moments, it was discovered two Urgals had stayed behind. Brom was knocked unconscious and Eragon was cornered. To escape Eragon accidentally used magic. By uttering “Brisingr” Eragon let out a burning arrow that killed the Urgals. He and Brom escaped back into the wilderness. Scene 1 of my comic strip begins when Brom regains conscious. Eragon explains that he escaped from the Urgals using magic. Eragon then pushes for knowledge about magic and Brom’s temper quickly rises. In the book, Brom yelled, “This isn’t something you should be taught-much less use!” (Paolini, pg. 138) They got into an argument and Eragon’s immaturity quickly became apparent. Eragon even challenged Brom’s knowledge, “Is there some secret I’m not supposed to learn until I’m old and wise? Or maybe you don’t know anything about magic!” (Paolini, pg. 138) Eragon wouldn’t listen to Brom. Brom even warned him, “If you knew what you asked for, you would not be so quick to inquire.” However, the argument continued and steadily ended. It took a while before Eragon showed signs of responsibility later in the story.
If I may ask, what transpired while I was unconscious. How did we escape from the Urgals?
It's a long story... I think I used magic.
Have you ever used this power before?
No. Can you use magic too?
I owe you a debt for saving my life. However, magic is dangerous. You could have destroyed the town!
I didn't have a choice. Can you teach me?
No. You will bring harm to both yourself and others! You are to not use magic again!!!
I may have too! You just don't know anything about magic that you can't teach me!!!
Magic is too complex for one as ignorant as you! You're too young and not responsible enough to carry this burden.
I wouldn't be ignorant if you would tell me!!!
I feel I've been thrust in the wrong world. I'm not ready.
