- On the last night of his presidency john Adams wrote his last commissions to submit judges into the supreme court
- On Thomas Jeffersons first day as president he found these commissions and told Madison not to deliver the commissions
- Do not deliver these!!!
- This is Ridiculous. I don't want all of John Adams friends on MY supreme court
- Where's My Letter!!!!
- When one of the judges, William Marbury, didn't get his commission letter from John Adams and he was mad. He then filed a case in the supreme court to get his spot as a justice.
- john Marshall told Marbury that the law that gives the POTUS the power to send commissions is unconstitutional and the court agrees
- The case still went to court and Marbury lost 4-0 and wasn't able to be a justice on the supreme court
- Marshall Established judicial review, the power to SCOTUS to judge wether rights are unconstitutional and take them down
