- The Clutter family was murdered on November 15, 1959. All 4 of the family members in the house were shot.
- Dick and Perry, criminals out on Parole, were responsible for the Clutters’ murder. They were now on a con-man spree throughout the states.
- Al Dewey was put on the case. He knew the Clutters’ so he felt a personal connection with their case. It was particularly hard on him though when he couldn’t find a lead.
- Floyd Wells, Dick’s former cell mate, heard about the Clutters’ murder. He was shocked. He used to work for the Clutters’ and he knows that Dick killed them. He had told Dick that the Clutters’ were a rich family. Dick had talked about going and robbing them after he got out of jail and leaving no witnesses. Floyd Wells told the Police.
- Dick and Perry were found and arrested. They were tried in Holcomb and sentenced to execution.
- They were hung on April 15, 1965.
