Battle of Salamis
In 490 B.C.E 25,000 Persian men rode across Aegeon and landed in Marathon where 10,000 Athenian men waited for them. The Athenians were outnumbered but still managed to win the war. The Persians decided to board there boats and head to Athens because they were now defenseless. The Athen men found out and sent a man named Pheidipped to run 26.2 miles back to Athens to warn them. The Perians found the Athen city heavily defended and retreated.
Battle of Plateau
In 480 B.C.E was a battle between the Athenians, Sparta against Persia at the mountain pass of Thermopylae. The Greeks blocked the way and stopped the Persians from advancing from 3 days The Spartans stayed to hold the Persians back while the other Greeks retreated. The Persians won the battle.
Consequences/outcome
In 480 B.C.E is a battle between Persian and the Greeks located in between the mainland and salamis island.Although outnumbered the Greeks persuaded the Athenians to bring the Persian to battle again. The Persian navy sailed into a narrow canal, and tried to block the entrances where Athens positioned themselves in.The large Persian ships soon because stuck and disorganized. The Athenians took this opportunity the Greeks formed a line and sunk and captured at least 200 hundred Persians.
The Battle of Plateau was the final land battle. The battle was in 479 B.C.E near the city Plateau. Mardonius the Persian general established a base at Plateau in Thebes. The Greek army then assembled on hills near them to confront them. Neither side made an attack but the Persians raided Greeks supply routes and cut off some of the water supplies. The Greek military officer Pausanius decided to move to a new position. the Persians saw the opportunity and attacked while the Greeks were disorganized. The Greeks eventually got the upper hand and after the Persian general died in combat the Persians broke and fled.
After the battle of Plateau the Greek city-states made the Delian league. The Delian Leagues purpose was a military alliance between the Greek city-states against any enemies that threaten the Ionian Greeks. Their purpose was to come together if Persia were to attack again. After the Persian war the city- states felt free and confident, especially Athens. After the Delian League was formed Athens used its power to control the other league members.
