  • The Boston Tea Party (1773)
  • On March 5th, 1770, the Boston Massacre took place in the middle of the street. The argument was between British Private Hugh White and a mob of colonists. 5 men were killed because of the event and their lack of weapons compared to the British played a role in their unfortunate demise.
  • Battle of Lexington and Concord (1775)
  • The British Parliament passed the Tea Act in 1773 to basically make it so that the tea could be shipped directly to America and taxed in India to stop it from being shipped to Britain and distributed to the colonies from there. The colonists didn't support this act because they felt as if it just validated the Townshend Tax on tea.
  • Thomas Paine's Common Sense (1776)
  • The Boston Tea Party took place on the night of December 16th, 1773. The American colonists had dumped about 342 chests of tea into the harbor as a form of protest against the British. This tea had been imported by the British East Company. The colonists protested "taxation without representation".

  • Paul Revere had done his famous midnight ride to warn the colonists of the troops coming to concord. The first shots of the Battles of Lexington and Concord were shot on April 19th, 1775 and the first shot quickly became known as "the shot heard around the world" because it marked the beginning of the American Revolutionary War.
  • Published January 10th of 1776, Thomas Paine's Common Sense made the argument that they should be independent from Great Britain. Paine's Common Sense encouraged the colonists to fight for their independence which greatly helped them within the revolutionary war. It encouraged certain colonists to join the army.
