- In 1817 clerc was head teacher at the American school for the deaf
- In 1818 Clerc went to get support from congress
- he ended up reading his speech for the legislature and got a lot of money supporting their cause for the school
- In 1819 Clerc married Eliza Crocker Boardman and started a familywith her
- Clerc primarily taught grade school students , he lso trained teachers both haring and deaf
- Other people Clerc had influenced had founded other schools and spread deaf culture everywhere.
- His form of sign language was french. Many students altered the signs creating their own native signs.
