  • Hamilton, I just don't think this new Constitution is a good idea. It doesn't leave enough power for the states! If the central government wants to take even more power, it can do so with the Necessary and Proper clause.

  • The Anti-Federalists will only agree to this constitution if we add a Bill of Rights. It is necessary to specify the peoples' rights so they can protect themselves from an overpowered government.

  • We thought outlining specific rights in the constitution would only take away potential power from the people. A Bill of Rights could be considered exhaustive and create the opposite effect you intended.

  • After reaching an understanding on what each document was truly meant to do for the people, the Federalists and Anti-federalists decided to put the constitution to a vote while the Bill of Rights was improved. In 1788, the Constitution was ratified, followed by the Bill of Rights in 1791.

  • I disagree, Hancock. The central government only takes the power it needs to be able protect the liberties of the people and run the country efficiently. The new three branches of government will keep the federal government in check and aligned with the people.
