- Sure! Well there are 8 phases of the moon the crescent, new moon waxing crescent, first quarter, waxing gibbus, full moon waning gibbus, third quarter, and last but not least waning crescent. These phases repeat them selves over 29.5 days. When the sun and moon line up a eclipse happens. It takes 27.3 days for the moon to orbit Earth. The moon is about 4.5 billion years old. The moon is also 250,000 miles away from Earth. The moon moves at 2,288 miles per hour around Earth. If you were in a car it would take 130 days to get there if there is no traffic!
