  • Overproduction Of Giraffes
  • Genetic Variations That Have Occurred
  • SELECTIVE AGENTS PRESENT IN ITS ENVIRONMENT-Competition
  • The overproduction of giraffes leads to not enough trees/food being available for all of them; therefore, Long-necked giraffes were more likely to live and produce more offspring because they had better access to food. Short-necked giraffes were more likely to starve before reproducing due to increased competition for food as they could only reach the lower branches and leaves. Thus, resulting in an increase in the population of long-neck giraffes with each generation.
  • SELECTIVE AGENTS PRESENT IN ITS ENVIRONMENT-Tall trees
  • Giraffes with longer necks vs giraffes with shorter necks.
  • REPRODUCTION
  • The environment couldn’t provide enough trees for all giraffes, therefore, the giraffes with longer necks had easier access to food as they could reach the tall trees. While the giraffes with shorter necks had to compete with other giraffes for the leaves that were easier to reach.
  • Adaptations to its environment
  • The trees were tall meaning, giraffes with longer necks had better access to them, while short neck giraffes couldn’t reach the tall trees and had to compete with other giraffes for the shorter trees and branches, increasing their chances of starvation.
  • Giraffes with long necks could survive more easily and reproduce, passing their long neck trait onto their offspring. Short neck giraffes would have trouble reaching the tall trees for food, making it difficult for them to survive and reproduce. As a result, the number of tall neck giraffes would increase with each generation, while short neck giraffes would decrease.
  • The giraffes’ long necks are an adaptation to being able to reach the tall trees for food. Their long neck helps them survive and reproduce, while the giraffes with shorter necks would find it difficult to reach the tall trees; therefore, they would starve and be unable to reproduce.
