- Who says d-o-g means that thing that goes woof and wags its tail?
- Mrs. Granger was the 5th grade language arts teacher and loved dictionaries.
- Chapter 6 - The Big Idea
- What's a frindle?
- Here is your frindle
- I have one you can borrow, Nick.
- Nick is trying to get out of homework by asking lots of questions.
- Chapter 7 - Word Wars
- Nick, I'd like a word with you after class.
- Homework first was the rule and Nick had to write his report.
- Nick began to give his report and talked about the dictionary. Mrs. Granger was not happy.
- This is when Nick got the big idea to call a pen a "frindle".
- Nick made a big deal of calling the pen a frindle and all the other kids called it that too.
- Mrs. Granger, I forgot my frindle.

- Everyone started saying frindle and Mrs. Granger made everyone stay after school and write 100 times.
- Chapter 12 - Airwaves
- The principal came to talk to Nick's parents about all the trouble he was causing with his new word.
- Chapter 13 - Ripples
- Judy Morgan wanted to write a story about Nick's word that was causing so much trouble at school.
- Chapter 14 - Inside Nick
- Nick, your idea was a good one.
- Thanks Mrs. Granger, and don't forget to buy some frindles for next year.
- The Westfield Gazette story was printed and now everyone knew all about Nick's word "frindle".
- Chapter 15 - And The Winner Is . . .
- Everyone across America now knew about Frindle.
- Why did you make up this word, frindle?
- Nick had become famous and it was business as usual.
- Westfield Home of the Original Frindle
- Everything that happened had changed Nick.
- 10 years later - Nick got the letter from Mrs. Granger and her pen from those days. Mrs. Granger got a special "object" from Nick on Christmas. She also received a notice of a Trust Fund for a college scholarship made in her name from a "former student".
