Parvana puts her family first. One way she shows this by turning herself into a boy to make money for her family. Parvana was also sure of herself. She shows this because she would always tell people her father was coming back even when she wasn't sure herself.
At first Nooria was really rude to Parvana. She showed this because she would make fun of Parvana. Then towards the end of the book Nooria and Parvana became friends and Parvana gave Nooria a pen to symbolize their friendship.
In chapter three mother is demanding. Mother is demanding that the guards at the jail release her husband. mother also feels defeated in chapter four. She feels defeated because she could not get her husband back and they have no way to make money. Finally in chapter thirteen mother is strict. she is strict because she is telling Parvana she will go to the wedding and their is no room for argument
Mrs. Weera is bold and sure of herself. In the book when she hears that Parvana's mother is just laying on the Toshak she still insists that she comes over. She is also persuasive. She is persuasive because she was the one who convinced Parvana to become a boy and become the breadwinner of the family.
Maryam is adoring to her older sister, Parvana. She is also very energetic. She is energetic because when she is taken outside she runs around and when shes inside she can't sit still.
Shauzia is not optimistic. She wants to escape so bad she is going to leave her family. She is not optimistic because she does not think things will get better.
