- At the beginning of the book, Samira, an 11-year-old girl who is working for the French resistance, is hiding from the Nazis that took control of her town, Normandy, France. She has her dog named Cyrano alongside her.
- Don't let anyone leave their houses!
- Yes Sir!
- In the middle of the book, Samira goes to save her mom who is imprisoned in Bayeux, France. She finds allied soldiers that are near Normandy to defeat the Nazis and they give her food for her and her dog.
- I have to stay with my troop but here are some biscuits for you and your dog.
- Will you come with me to save my mother?
- Samira made it to Bayeux and saw her mother digging her own grave while being watched over by two soldiers. She must do something in order to save her mother.
- Its probably nothing. Keep digging!
- Did you hear that?
- French cities and towns being bombed by allied soldiers in the 1940s.
- AHHH
- Everyone look out!
- The Normandy Landings of June 6th, 1944. This was an allied invasion of Normandy during World War II.
- Fire!
- Watch out!
- I've only been here for a few months but I hope the war will end soon.
- I was captured two years ago but I'm still here.
- Prisoners of War were held in camps run by the Nazis , commonly in the 1940s.
