- Step two
- - Make a cut on the left side of the body and remove all the internal organs except for the heart.- Then pack the liver, lungs, stomach and intestines with natron to dry them out
- - Wash the body with good smelling wine and rinse it off with water from the Nile
- Step Five- Begin wrapping the body in linen. Between layers place amulets to protect the body during its journey. During this process a priest will read out spells.
- Step Three- Remove the brain and cover the body in Natron(Salt). Wait 40 days.
- Step Four- Cover the body in oil to keep the skin elastic and stuff it with dry materials to make it look life-like again. Place the organs in canopic jars.
- Step Six- The arms and legs are then tied together and a papyrus scroll with spells from the Book of the Dead is placed between the hands. A cloth with Osiris painted on top is wrapped around the body before wrapping another cloth around the body. Strips of linen are then attached around the mummy.
- Step Seven- The mummy is lowered into its coffin and a funeral is held to mourn for the dead. A ritual called the 'Opening of the Mouth is performed so the dead is able to eat and drink in the afterlife. Their belongings and body are then arranged in a tomb. It is now ready to travel to the afterlife where its heart is judged for its good deeds.
