- The narrator went to a hunting season with he’s friends at a house in Picardy. The narrator's friends liked to play practical jokes.

- When they'd arrived they treated him like princely reception which made him think that something was going on.

- The narrator was suspicious that something was going to but he looked everywhere and nothing. He couldn’t go to sleep so he put his bed in the middle of his room and went to sleep.

- That's when the narrator woke up and felt something heavy on his body and felt something on face. Narrator couldn’t breathe but he could feel body parts like noise and whiskers.

- That’s when the narrator heard his friends running into the apartments and the narrator got up and ran out in a nightshirt into the hallway. The narrator behind him.
- When the narrator so it was the valet that was bringing food to him but tripped on. That's when he knew he played a joke on himself.
