Baby girl naming: When a baby girl is born her father and both of the father in laws are called to the Torah. When they are called up they read the Torah and give out blessings to the mother and child which is called an Aliyah. Then the Rabbi offers Misheberakh which are prayers. Afterward, the Rabbi calls out Avi Habitat meaning congratulations to the family. Finally welcoming songs are sung for the baby girl at the feast.
Tevilah: The full body of a baby girl is dipped in a Mikah. A Mikah is a large bath filled with holy water. While the baby girl is in the Mikah, their hands are washed with water by the rabbi, while the mom and the rabbi say prayers. Afterward, they have a small ceremony where they pray and welcome the baby girl into the religion.
Bat Mitzvah: When a girl turns 12 she has become a bat mitzvah. At the age of 12, the girl is now considered an adult. Bat mitzvah means that you are the official daughter of mitzvah. When a girl reaches 12 there is a big or small celebration in which the rabbi and the male family members bless her and celebrate. Although before the actual celebration the girl has o take classes to learn about the mitzvah.
Hanukkah: Jewish festival for lights to celebrate the taking over of the second Jewish temple in Jerusalem. In the second century, the greeks were the one who ruled the land known today as Israel. The greek forced the Jews to stop believing in their beliefs and to start obeying the Greek gods. Althouthough the Jews fought back and fought the Greeks out of their land and took over their temple. At the night of December 2-10, one candle on the menorah is lightened every night while they are praying and offering blessings. At the last night, there is a big feast and blessings.
Wedding: A Jewish wedding starts with a reception honoring the bride and the groom. Afterward, badeken takes place which is the ceremony. This is when the groom goes over to the bride's room and places the vale on her face which means the groom is not only interested in her outer beauty. Then Kiddushin takes place where the husband gives the bands to the bride. Ketubah takes place after where which is the responsibilities of the husband to the bride. Finally, the couple jumps onto a glass cup wrapped in a napkin and shout “ Mazal Tov ” which represents the hardship in a marriage, after this they go to reception to have a big feast.
Rosh Hashana: Jewish new year, which is the day God created Adam and Eve. this celebration usually occurs at sundown on September and continues through nightfall till the next day. During the evening there is the lighting of candles and prayers and festival meals during the night. During the night of the celebration, the Jews sound the horn called the shofar. The sounding of the shofar means that God has saved humanity.
