The battle against the Plishtim

- Israel marched out to engage the Philistines in battle; they encamped near Eben-ezer, while the Philistines encamped at Aphek.
- The Philistines arrayed themselves against Israel; and when the battle was fought, Israel was routed by the Philistines, who slew about four thousand men on the field of battle
- When the troops returned to the camp, the elders of Israel asked, “Why did ה׳ put us to rout today before the Philistines? Let us get the Ark of the Covenant of the LORD from Shiloh; thus He will be present among us and will deliver us from the hands of our enemies.”
- The troops sent Eli's two sons to be in charge of the Aron. When they came to camp Israel shouted and the Plishtim wondered what was happening. When they heard god came to camp they were scared "Woe to us! We will die!"
- But the Plishtim said "Be brave and fight!" and so they did and the defeat was great and around 30,000 people died. Eli's sons died too and the aron was stolen.
- Eli was told the news from okay to worst and at the end he fell of his chair broke his neck and died. Also Pinchas's wife went into labor early and died too.
