The sun is a flower that blooms for just one hour.
This is beautiful Margot! Did you write that yourself?
No it's not!
On the planet Venus it rains a lot. Every 7 years the sun is supposed to come out for one hour. The young children stand at the window in hopeness that they see the sun. A young girl Margot, seems to stand apart from the group.
Margot does not participate in any of the games or activities with other children. They find her to be different and dislike her because they do not believe her when she says that she remembers the sun.
The sun feels amazing!
In class Margot reads her poem about the sun. William is jealous of Margot and does not believe that she recalls what the sun is like. He and the other students are also envious of the fact that Margot could one day move back to Earth with her parents.
As a prank, William and the other children lock Margot in a closet, telling her that she would not see the sun after all. Margot yells for them to let her out, but they do not listen.
Finally, the rain begins to slacken and the sun comes out! The children play outside for an hour, until they begin to feel the rain drops on their skin once more.
The children suddenly remember that they had left Margot in the closet. They feel ashamed and guilty for what they have done. They walk slowly towards the closet door to let her out.
