  • Begin bypouring 10mL of polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) into a 30mL graduated cup
  • Next, pour 2.5 mL of sodium borate into the other graduated cup you have
  • One member of your group should slowly and carefully add the sodium borate into the PVA, another person should stir the two together while it is being poured
  • As you are completing this step make sure you are jotting down notes about the PVA and carefully observing it
  • Observe the properties of the new substance you have created, write them down
  • Remember to closely look at the properties of this as well and write what you see down in the data table
  • Do a few tests on each additional properties. For example, what happens when you pull this?, does it stick to your desk?, your chair?
  • Look at the changes that are going on, observe and record in your B19 data table
  • Follow your teachers directions on how to clean up this lab, you do not want to get hurt
  • After looking at your new item in a cup transfer it to a paper towel. Investigate and record STRETCHINESS, STICKINESS, BOUNCINESS
  • Record all of you information down, you will want it for later
