  • You'll never get us, British losers! We can stay here forever!
  • You can't penetrate the mighty wall of Quebec!
  • Surrender, Montcalm. You already lost. My men will overwhelm you!
  • Follow me, boys. I found a path to bypass most of the defences.
  • Montcalm and his men were protecting Quebec. They faced a huge fleet of British ships and a well-trained army. Montcalm believed they were safe inside the stone fortress. They could fire their cannons at will on the enemy below. They believed help was on the way. The French needed to wait until the water froze so that Wolfe and his men would go away.
  • What?! How did you manage to get here? Impossible. Troops, attack!
  • Wolfe and his troops faced a well-defended fortress perched atop a high cliff. It appeared impossible to climb. Quebec could not be surrounded and it’s resources couldn’t be cut off. Time was short. There would be only a few weeks until the cold weather set in. By capturing Quebec the British would make New France collapse and would get them trade routes, access to St.Lawrence River, triumph over the French.
  • Wolfe came up with a plan. On the high clifftop behind the fortress was a farmer’s field known as the Plains of Abraham. If British soldiers could secretly make their way there, they could attack the French where their defences were weak. So they did. Over the night thousands of British troops crept up a steep path leading to the field.
  •
  • Ha-ha, French loser! Give me that juicy land.
  • At the fort, Montcalm had 6000 soldiers. About 4400 professional British soldiers waited on the Plains. Montcalm was hoping that if he attacks now, he will fight against the unprepared British. He ordered his troops to go and fight.
  • The British launched a massive volley of musket fire. The French fired back. A fierce battle raged, and both Wolfe and Montcalm were killed. After 15 minutes of slaughter, the French lost. In total, 1300 soldiers died on the Plains of Abraham.
  • Because France and its allies lost in the Seven Years' war New France was given to the British after the peace Treaty in 1763.
