- I see that you have come in with some concerns about possibly having Lyme Disease! Can you tell me the symptoms you have been experiencing as well as some activities you have done?
- Yes, actually! I went on a hike and there were some grassy areas!
- Hmmm..That does not seem like a cause for Lyme Disease.. Have you been outdoors during this week?
- Yes, sir! I brought my dog Spike with me on the hike.
- That makes some sense! Did you bring an animal with you?
- That makes a lot of sense, doctor!
- There's our answer! Your dog must have caught a tick that had Lyme Disease. That tick must have latched on to you and given you Lyme Disease!
- What do I do next? How do I prevent a Lyme Disease outbreak?
- I suggest some oral antibiotics, such as amoxicillin. That should take care of the Lyme Disease. Next time you go hiking, I encourage you to wear insect repellent and to remove ticks as soon as you see them.
