- Reconstruction Era:The period of time directly after the cilvil War. Trying to put America back together.
- President Lincoln planned to try to put the south and north back together. He also planned to make the lives of black people easy and equal. One way he did this is by opening up Freedmen's Bureaus which helped millions of former slaves.
- Before Lincoln could put all his plans in action, he was assassinated by John Booth. Before he passed one of the three reconstruction was passed. The 13th amendment abolished slavery.
- After Lincoln was assassinated, Andrew Johnson became president. When Andrew Johnson became president, he put Lincolns planned for reconstruction to rest. Although the plans were put to rest 2 more reconstruction amendments were passed.
- The 13th amendment was ratified in 1865 abolishing slavery
- The 14th amendment ratified in 1868 declared all persons born in the United States are define as citizens of the United States
- The 15th was ratified in 1870 allowing every citizen to voteThis allowed black men to vote
