When this was happening, the Native Americans were always caught in the middle.
  • Later in the 1750's, the French started to build forts in the Ohio river valley which ended up angering the English. France already had control over the land from the St. Lawrence river to New Orleans. They also wanted to gain control over Western Pennsylvania. • The governor in Virginia, governor Dinwiddie, chose George Washington, who was a wealthy planter and a member of the Virginia militia, to go and build a road through the mountains in Pennsylvania so it could be a symbol of them claiming the land. In May, 1754, the governor also told George Washing to tell France to leave the land. The Virginia militia accidently ended up killing a French "ambassador."

Both the French and the British wanted the native American's help. The leader of the British was General Edward Braddock. In 1755, General Braddock led thousands of British soldiers along with some of the colonial militia to the French Fort Duquesne in Pennsylvania, but ended up getting defeated.
  • When the news got to London about the defeat, Britain decided that they wanted war so they declared it on France. It was the beginning of the French and Indian war, and consisted of the French, British, and Spanish. They clashed in many different places including places in North America and Europe.
