  • Axe analogy pt 2
  • If this does not occur then we are nothing more than
  • Bone
  • Flesh
  • Skin
  • For Aristotle the soul and the body are interlinked, one cannot live without the other, they are inseparable. Living creatures are "substance" which means they consist of a soul and a body. The soul gives us Life.
  • The Superhero
  • If an axe were living then the body would be made of wood and metal. However, it's soul would be the thing that would make it an axe i.e it's capacity to chop wood. If it were to lose this ability then it would no longer be an axe but rather just wood and metal.
  • The Importance
  • This suggests that the purpose of a person is through the mind which is part of the soul. He stated that humans have the power of reason which he gives us authority over others, so if we lose this ability we would just be skin, flesh and bone.
  • In order to be a superhero he/she must have the ability to preform superpowers (soul). Without this they would cease to exist as a superhero, and would simply be flesh and blood, mortal like the rest of us.
  • The end purpose of something is important to Aristotle. An example would be that an axe chops, and an eye sees. This comes from theology from the Greek word theleo meaning end.
