Charlemagne was a Christian ruler his goal as a ruler was to rule in a Christian manner. Pope Leo and Charlemagne worked together many times, Pope Leo had eventually crowned Charlemagne, and the Charlemagne flew to Rome and the pope had protected him. One lasting effect of the coronation was that it strengthened the power of the church in Western Europe.

Charlemagne believed that god had made him emperor in order to do God’s work on Earth. On the other hand, Pope Leo believed that the church had made Charlemagne emperor. 200 years later, a dramatic clash happened between emperor and pope.

In 1073 Pope Gregory VII declared power alone and he felt like he had the right to chose and remove bishops from the throne. King Henry didn’t agree with the Pope and there was an attack between the two man. No one liked their arguments.

Then later there was a new Pope, Pope Gregory. Pope Gregory was strongly believed that the pope had lots of power. Pope Gregory declared that the pope had power to chose bishop, but the king on the other hand disagreed with this. The king felt like he had the power.
Pope Gregory, and king Charlemagne disagreed many times. Their argument about choosing bishop soon turned in to something big and people called it "Concordat of worms". People had many different opinions on this.
pope Gregory and king Charlemagne had died with people still having different opinions on their arguments. The people didn't enjoy there arguments. But even after they died the new king and new pope disagreed on who should chose the bishop.
