- The election of 1800 was the first time in our counties history that power has shifted from one political party to another. This transfer of power was peaceful for being the first time this happened there wasn't many protests and violence. Thomas Jefferson ended up winning the 1800 election against John Adams.

- Marbury should have been given commission to be a federal judge
- John Adams after being beat by Thomas Jefferson in office he ended up picking 42 federal judges before he left. These judges were know as midnight judges and they were all loyal federalists. John Adams has John Marshall working for him who was one of the elected officials. He was the secretary of state. This position is in the presidents cabinet. After seeing this after Jefferson took presidency he was very upset.

- Marbury was very upset because he did not receive his commission, even though John Adams gave him an appointment to get it and this is where the court case came from. He thought the supreme court should use the Rit of Mandamus . This is where the supreme court could force the executive branch to do what they wanted in the situation. This power was given to the supreme Court with the Judiciary act of 1789 signed by George Washington.

- Even though John Marshall was a loyal federalist because of his ties with John Adams he had to stay unbiased. He feared if he used the writ of mandamus Thomas Jefferson would just ignore the writ and the Supreme Court would lose power. At the time, the supreme court was thought to be the inferior of the three branches.

- Because of this case it resulted in the act of the supreme court to use Judicial Review in court cases.  Judicial Review is utilized in todays system of Checks and Balances. Before this ruling was made the supreme court was thought to be the inferior branch in our government. Now in 2022 this branch is important to the United States government process and is the voice of the American people and Constitution.
- The Roe v. Wade case was held in 1973. Roe is used as an alias for the woman's real name to protect her identity. The woman was wanting to abort her unborn child but the doctor didn't think that it was acceptable so he took her to court. Any case involving abortion has to go to the supreme court to be looked over. In the Roe V. Wade case the court ruled 7-2 in favor of Roe.
