- It's late at night when the main character is once more thinking about what she has been wondering for a long time now. Since she does not want to talk to anybody about this, she takes out her diary and starts writing down her thoughts which has always helped her in a way. The main character is a junior in high school, and have discovered that she is gay; however, she is a hesitant to come out because of what might people think of her.
- She finally talks to her dad about it since she knows he can help her with this hesitancy. He is a single dad, and he has always been supporting and encourages her to be herself. She has not seen her mom since she left at the starting of high school.
- The main character is lot in her thoughts when she hears some ignorant comments and insults about the LGBTQ community coming from the group beside her. She sees her long time friend is easily agreeing with what they are saying and laughing at the insults insults.
