At the beginning of your wellness unit, you should introduce the 5 aspects of wellness. In this activity, students will use a spider map to define and illustrate an example of each area of wellness. This will help students visualize each aspect and provides a resource for students to look back on for future activities.

Student Instructions
Create a storyboard depicting and describing the five aspects of wellness.
Build consistency by starting each day with a short check-in where students reflect on their wellness. This helps them connect classroom activities to their own lives and builds self-awareness.
Show vulnerability by describing how you care for your own wellness. This normalizes conversation and encourages students to do the same.
Support participation by providing simple prompts like “Today I feel…” or “One thing I did for my wellness is…”. These make it easier for all students to join in.
Promote physical and emotional wellness by scheduling quick stretches or breathing exercises during transitions. These short breaks help students refocus and reduce stress.
Reinforce positive change by recognizing students who practice wellness strategies. This motivates everyone to keep developing healthy habits.
The 5 aspects of wellness are Physical, Emotional, Social, Intellectual, and Spiritual wellness. Each aspect focuses on a different area of overall health and well-being.
A great way to teach the 5 aspects of wellness is by having students create a spider map or storyboard that defines and illustrates each aspect with examples. This visual activity helps students understand and remember each area effectively.
Use a visual vocabulary board where students define and illustrate examples of each wellness aspect. This hands-on approach encourages engagement and allows students to express understanding creatively.
Understanding all aspects of wellness helps students achieve balance in their lives, make healthier choices, and develop skills to manage challenges in and out of school.
Physical wellness focuses on the body’s health and ability to perform tasks, while emotional wellness is about recognizing and managing feelings. Both are crucial for overall well-being.
