Activity Overview
Using a G.R.A.P.E.S. Chart to organize information about ancient Civilizations is a useful tool to enhance students' analysis of the characteristics and contributions of a society. Going further and including visuals helps students to better retain the details of each category. In this activity, students will focus on just one aspect, and create a spider map that details the achievements of ancient India in art, architecture, technologies, writing, etc.
By focusing on just one category, students are encouraged to include more information and should complete 3-6 cells. Students can come together after they’ve created their storyboards to share what they’ve learned. The full G.R.A.P.E.S. chart can be used as a post assessment after students have presented.

Due Date:
Objective: Create a spider map focusing on the different achievements of ancient India in art, architecture, technology and/or writing.
Student Instructions:
- Click "Start Assignment".
- Write a title for each cell and a 1-3 sentence description.
- Create an illustration that represents each category using appropriate scenes, characters, and items. To find images related to ancient India, type “India” into the search bar.
Requirements: Minimum of 3-6 cells showcasing the various Achievements of ancient India. Appropriate scenes to illustrate each cell. 1-3 sentence description for each cell demonstrating your understanding.

In this portion, students will identify the major inventions, discoveries, and contributions of this civilization toward the advancement of the world. For instance, ancient Indian civilization had major contributions in subjects such as Mathematics, architecture, Astronomy, Medicine, etc.

Talk about how ancient India invented the decimal system, the notion of zero, and the value of pi. Describe how these mathematical ideas paved the way for the development of contemporary accounting, computer science, and mathematics.
Discuss the Importance of Medicine
Discuss the ancient Indian medical system known as Ayurveda, which places a strong emphasis on body humor balance and overall health. Draw attention to how Ayurveda has influenced alternative therapies and current holistic care. Emphasize the importance of the development of medicine and the curing of unknown diseases.
