I am Theseus. I live in southern Greece; my mother's childhood home.
THE CALL TO ADVENTURE
I was able to move the rock and find the sword and sandals my father left for me. I must travel to Athens to see my father, but by ship is too easy, grandfather. I cannot take flight from danger.
This ship is the fastest and easiest way to reach Athens. Your mother and I beseech you to sail on this ship to reach your destination .
ACCEPTING THE CALL
Every bandit who travels these roads to kill and steal from travelers will DIE today!! All of Greece will call me a hero!!
ENTERING THE UNKOWN
I will draw my sword to make myself known as your son. You will not allow me to be poisoned by Medea.
This hero will be dining with me at a banquet in celebration of his quest to rid our land of bandits!!
POISON HIM!!
But I may have to poison him
Theseus is raised by his mother in her hometown in southern Greece. His father is not mentioned to him until he reaches a certain age, then his mother tells him about the rock he must move. *The sword later becomes a talisman. .*This is the event that was the "HERALD" for adventure
TEST BEGINS
I have found you sleeping and will pummel you to death with my fists. Then I will find my way back through the labyrinth with this string. DIE MYNOTAUR!!!You will not have Ariadne.
Theseus wishes to go to Athens to meet his father, but refuses his mother and grandfather's urging to go by ship; as he deems this too simple and safe a journey. *This event is somewhat a REFUSAL OF THE QUEST.
THE JOURNEY HOME
Black sails! My son is dead.
On his chosen means of making the journey to Athens, Theseus uses his sword to kill every highway bandit he finds. He kills so many that the road to Athens is now safe for travel. *This leg of the journey could be ACCEPTING THE CALL.
REWARDS
Upon his arrival in Athens, his father the King does not recognize him and listening to Medea, decides to poison him. When Theseus draws the sword that was a gift from his father, The King recognizes it and prevents Theseus from drinking the poisoned wine. * Medea is a TRICKSTER in this scenario. (or a villain)
MASTER OF TWO WORLDS / RESTORING
I will lead my men into many exciting adventures. My friends and comrades will join me and we will be heros many time over. We will be men of renown.
Fourteen youths were sacrificed to the Minotaur as a tribute to keep Athens safe. Upon hearing that it was time once again to make the tribute, Theseus volunteers to enter the labyrinth. A ball of string, given to him by Daedalus would show him the way to escape and take Ariadne with him. His plan, however, was to kill the Minotaur. *The Minotaur is an obvious VILLIAN. The ball of string was ingenious and could be seen as a TALISMAN
When Theseus sailed home, he forgot to hoist white sails as a sign of victory and that he was still alive. When the King saw the black sails, he threw himself into the sea in grief. *This could be viewed as ENTERING THE UNKNOWN.
This sea will forever be called The Aegean because King Aegeus threw himself from the cliffs into the sea to drown.
Theseus became King of Athens. The people extolled him greatly when he decided to allow them to rule themselves. *It should be noted here that a possible SHADOW could be Theseus' constant need for danger and challenges.
I am King, but I do not wish to rule the people. I will establish a commonwealth where everyone is equal. I will be the Commander in Chief so all of Athens will rejoice. And of course, I will be free to seek the dangerous adventures that I crave.
Theseus was ruled by his constant quest for danger and adventure. He and his friends go on many more adventures and conquer lands, monsters, and evil rulers. * Theseus is a HERO along with his ALLIES, Daedalus, Pirithous, Hercules, Jason, the Argos, and others.
