causes The Brazilian revolution was not without its reasons. For three centuries Brazil had been under the governing body of Portugal however after Napoleon invasion of France and fleeing of the emperor and prince lead to a great amount of weakening in power which also lead to political and social tensions and outrage in Portugal's parliament leaving it in a weakened state and taking this opportunity and used this unbalance to start the revolution
On September 7 Dom Pedro l chose the Brazilian side and on September 12 he was declared the Brazilian emperor. His goal was to stop slavery. And declare independence from Portugal.
Golden Law, or Lei Áurea which was passed by the Brazilian Senate and sanctioned by Princess Isabel on 13 May 1888, freed all remaining slaves and abolished the institution of slavery. Despite the desperate resistance of some planters, the law recognized what had become fact. Slaves had fled plantations in increasing numbers, causing many planters to free their remaining slaves in hopes of retaining their services as wage workers or sharecroppers. Planters who had already begun to hire indentured immigrant laborers, notably in the São Paulo zone.
Because of the “Golden Law” slavery was eventually abolished. Also Brazil has declared independence from Portugal but still has a monarchy.
