Gina's Story Reflection

- I was inspired by hearing Gina's story. Both Gina and her mom are incredible people. They are strong, resilient, and brave in the face of difficult and at time frightening situations. It created even more empathy within me for families with children that have disabilities because they go through so much yet they still have to remain strong for their kids.
- Gina's mom Niki refused to listen to anyone who told her that Gina would not be capable of anything or accomplish anything. She believed that Gina was capable of learning and growing and she did not strop until she found people who felt the way she did about Gina's situation.
- As a teacher I will help parents share their voice by being an advocate for them and their child. I will provide them with additional resources and support that they may need for their child. I will send out a form for parents to fill out so they can tell me about their child. Lastly, I will make sure to keep open communication with students' parents while keeping them informed on what the students are learning at the moment. This will help parents feel comfortable to reach out to the teacher with any questions or concerns.
- Despite being different than other students, Gina was a smart and brave young girl who always exceeded what others thought was possible. Truly remarkable.
