In 1916, a new state constitution was passed and it outlawed the manufacture and sell of alcoholic beverages.
Canadian border
People who liked alcohol ran to the store that still had alcohol products, and bought as much as they could find.
To stop them
Gangsters began to bring liquor from Ohio to Michigan, and sold them to people who really wanted them with more money than they bought them in Ohio.
If we bring and sell liquor to people who want them, we definitely can make incredible money in Michigan. Don't you think so?
In January 1920, the US law about prohibition finally went into effect all over the place. However, gang group "rum runners" began to bring liquor from Canada to Michigan.
It's just easy way to make more money in easy way.Just bring liquor from Canada and sell them.That's it.
In order to stop them from bringing liquor from Canada, the US government decided to use the US CustomsService, the Immigration Service, Federal Prohibition Agency, and the Coast Guard. There were 250 officers.
