  • Does anyone know the exponent rules? I need them for my report!
  • The exponent itself determines how many times you multiply the base by itself, such as 7^2 = 7x7
  • An exponent is a number attached to a base, the base is the number underneath the exponent
  • Sure! I can help!
  • Can you please tell me what an exponent is?
  • Well the Product Rule is that when multipying the same bases with exponents, you'd keep the base and add the exponents!
  • The Quotient rule is the opposite, as when dividing two numbers of the same base, the exponents are subtracted
  • But what is the Product and Quotient Rule about?
  • And what are the Power to Power Rule and Zero Power Rules?
  • The Zero Power Rule is pretty simple, anything to the power of zero becomes one, except if the base is already 0
  • The power to power rule states that when one exponent is raised to the power of another, the exponents are multplied with each other.
  • The negative exponent rules just says that a base with a negative exponent with move the base and the positive exponent to the denominator with a numerator of one
  • The radicand becomes the base in exponential noation, and the index becomes the denominator, the exponent of the radicand becomes the numerator of the exponent applied to the base
  • Also, what is the negative exponent rule? An how do you convert between radical and exponential notation?
  • Then if you were multiplying, you'd simply multiply the bases and keep the exponent on the product
  • If you are dividing however, you'd divide the bases instead and keep the exponent on the quotient
  • But what if the bases are different and the exponents are the same?!
