- There was a very small group of people who controlled most of the wealth. Tensions in New Spain were growing after the mid-eighteenth-century. New Spain was bankrupt by members of the economic elite, badly hit by the economic policy of the monarchy.

- Clandestine meetings were held in the house of the corregidor Miguel Hidalgo, Juan Aldama and Josefa Ortíz where they were seeking the removal of the Spaniards from government positions
- In 1810, began a political and social movement which was resolved with weapons; Hidalgo had to summon the town of Dolores to rise up against the Spanish authorities
- Hidalgo summoned the insurgents to rise up against the bad government. In an act that is known as Grito de Dolores and is considered the beginning of the war for Mexican independence.
