- linnet Doyle was murdered in her sleep and apparently to help the detectives she wrote in her own blood the first letter of the murderer. Hercules Poirot and Race think that Jacqueline De Bellefort could is being framed as Linnet Doyle didn't have enough blood to write the letter J seeing as it was a .22 pistol that murdered her.

- the reason why both men were talking as such was because the very night before miss Jacqueline had shot her ex husband in the leg (Mr Doyle) and so ran into hysterics because of what she had done. Cordila (a servant of one of the people visiting) had sent the nurse to cake for her. the gun Jacqueline had used was dropped under a sofa and the next day after mrs doyle was murdered it had vanished...
- same here poirot someone framed her unless she somehow snuck out.
