The Royals were interested in locating a new route to marks in India ,conquering new land ,and finding sources of gold ,but they were strapped for cash .Columbus intrigued Queen Isabella since he promised new wealthy .
In the 15th and 16th centuries .Europeans wanted to find sea routes To the fair east .Columbus wanted to find a new route to India ,china ,Japan and the spice islands .if he could reach these lands , he would be able to bring back rich cargoes of silks and spices .
When he returned to Spain in 1504 after his last voyage, Columbus was fifty-three and in poor health. Information of the eyes sometimes made it impossible for him to read and he suffered agonies from what was one’s diagnosed as gout or arthritis, but is now suspected to have been something called reiter syndrome .
In October 12, 1492, Italian explorer Christopher Columbus made landfall in what is now the Bahamas . Columbus and his ships landed on an island that navtive lucayan people called guanahain . Columbus renamed it San Salvador .
He and a few of his men were jailed for six weeks until King Ferdinand ordered their release. Columbus's freedom and wealth were restored.
While Columbus obtained great wealth from his expeditions, he became an outcast and died of age-related causes on May 20, 1506 in Valladolid, Spain.
