- Why are we driving all the way out to Brea on a week day?
- After arriving at her sister's house, Monique was abruptly left alone with her niece and nephew. Confused, she cared for them late into the night, until she was awoken, and was on her way home.
- Is the bread ready?
- What?!
- Don't ask stupid questions, Mona. Just go outside and say hey to them.
- Throughout the next few weeks, family members began to show up more often, stay longer. Monique and Daniella, her youngest sister, found this strange, but thought nothing of it, since it meant they could spend more time with their cousins. They would constantly ask "How are you feeling?", but it felt different from a normal ask. She was fine, wasn't she?
- Hey, mijo!
- Why do you think they're here?
- Hey, Sis! How are you feeling?
- After a few weeks, Monique's mom had the surgery, and it went very well. The doctor had informed her family that the recovery process would be a while.
- Mona, she's doing good right now, and your tio and I are going to come over often and help, but you're going to have to help too, make sure the house is clean, and get Daniella to and from school. Is that too much for you?
- No, I can do that.
- Monique had realized that by not allowing any help, she was only hurting herself more. She decided that she wasn't going to be alone anymore, so she started helping out her family by taking her sister to school, and helping take care of her mom after surgery.
- Have a good day at school, okay? Meet me right here when the bell rings.
- Okay, I'll see you later, Love you.
- That's good to hear mom. I brought you some coffee, Daniella and I are about to leave for school, so I'll see you later.
- I'm feeling good, mija. I appreciate your help with your sister very much.
- Hey mom, how do you feel?
- Okay, you girls be safe.
