  • Napoleon had a highly respected reputation during the French Revolution which is how he gained power. In 1799, Napoleon overthrew the French Directory government and made reforms like a higher education system, a bank, and law codes.

  • In the storming of the Bastille, a huge mob of Parisians strongly stormed in the fortress, which they then seized the Bastille's gunpowder and released the seven prisoners that were confined in the fortress. This was a symbol of the despotism of the Bourbon monarchy.
