- It marked the beginning of the civil war and In the South feelings also ran high, the men who fired the cannons at Fort Sumter were considered heroes
- This win gave the confederacy a huge amount of confidence and shocked people in the North who realized this war would not be easily won as they thought.

- It was a crucial win for the North but this win also robbed the Confederacy of one of their most capable leaders, Gen. Albert Sidney Johnston
- First naval battle between ironclad warships.It was part of a Confederate effort to break the Union blockade of Southern ports.
- This Battle gave Abraham Lincoln a platform to issue the Proclamation from a position of strength. Also allowed the Union to repel the first Confederate invasion of the North.

- It was important in its own way, it was a south's victory and Lee's first invasion on the North's territory.
- This battle was a horrible defeat for the union even though they were outnumbered by thousands of confederates. The union suffered twice as many casualties and it was the lowest point in the war for the union
- Battle of Fredericksburg
- a great victory for the Union. It gave control of the Mississippi River to the Union. Around the same time, the Confederate army under General Robert E. Lee was defeated at the Battle of Gettysburg. These two victories marked the major turning point of the Civil War in favor of the Union.
