  • Brazil needs INDEPENDENCE! I am ignoring your Portuguese assembly letter and guiding Brazil into its own empire! You will no longer control this nation.
  • I REFUSE to back down. We, the Portugal Assembly, have sent you a warning letter to return to Portugal!
  • Shortly after this conversation, military conflicts between Brazil and Portugal sparked. Napoleon Wars proved Brazilian importance as King João fled to Brazil for refuge with his son, where he later left Dom Pedro I there and finally, returned to Portugal.

  • With my father's absence, I have been crowned Brazil's first emperor! I officially declare Brazil as its OWN EMPIRE and I now initiate INDEPENDENCE! We not freely trade and have our own government, different than then Portuguese ruling.
  • SEPTEMBER 7th, 1822, Brazil gained independence from Portugal and began forging its own national identity. Dom Pedro I is now a Brazilian emperor.
