  • The USA is commemorating Independence Day today, July 4th.
  • Oh, what's that?
  • Hmm. I'm not sure, so let's try looking it up on the internet..
  • Oh really. Hmm.. What about this: do you recall the official date of the Philippine independence?
  • Oh! There are two dates here: it is June 12 and July 4. How's that?
  • Alright, what does it say?
  • Aha! According to what is mentioned here, the Filipinos first celebrated Aguinaldo's Kawit Declaration of Independence on June 12, 1898.
  • But based on what I have recalled, we Filipinos of today, celebrates June 12.
  • With this, the Tydings-Mcduffie Law was enacted which had gave us and the Americans a 10-year transition period for independence. This was delayed due to the Japanese Invasion. After the re-capturing of the Philippines, on July 4, 1946, the independence were officially proclaimed,
  • Wait, there's more here. After the Kawit Proclamation, we are again invaded by the Americans. Many of Filipinos fought for liberty but failed. Pres. Quezon had talks with Pres. Roosevelt of USA to grant us the sovereignty back.

  • In 1963, Pres. Macapagal signed Proclamation No. 110 designating June 12, 1898 as the official date of Philippine Independence, which we are celebrating up to this day.
