  • As a right-fielder for the Pittsburgh Pirates from 1955 to 1972, he won four National League batting titles, twelve Golden Glove awards, and was named the National League's Most Valuable Player in 1966.
  • One major obstacle for him was the English language. He was an emotional person, a sensitive person, and he was not understood. His first languish was Spanish making it hard to communicate with is team let alone being “different”.

  • From Roberto Clemente we can learn that being different doesn’t change the amazing talent that you have. My impression on him is that he has an amazing talent and deserves the label of one of the best baseball players of all time.
  • Clemente was born in 1934 in Puerto Rico, the youngest of the seven children of Melchor and Luisa Clemente. He played amateur softball on the sandlots of his hometown of Carolina until he was 18 years old. In 1960 he hit 314 with 16 home runs and 94 runs batted in. He helped lead the Pirates to win both the National League pennant and the World Series.
