In The Great Gatsby, cars show power, money, and status, but they also can show corruption. They can cause people to go "In the ditch" and never pay the consequences for their actions all because they are rich (Fitzgerald 53). After Gatsby party everyone was drunk and many people drove home. This caused lots of accidents and shows how careless they were. Fitzgerald included this in the book to show how careless rich people were in the 20s.

Cars in The Great Gatsby are to show how money can cause more problems than benefits (Fitzgerald 137). This is when Myrtle got hit and Daisy and Gatsby didn't even stop. Fitzgerald used this to show how rich people had reckless disregard for others.
In The Great Gatsby, the eyes of Dr. T.J. Eckleburg represent god. They are a larger figure they represents how they see money as power, the more money you have the more powerful you are. The characters were "Under Dr. Eckleburg's persistent stare" and looked at him as if he were more than just a billboard (Fitzgerald 24). Fitzgerald wanted to show the audience how money had such an affect on people.
