- I'm so excited to see the firebirds today!
- Melanie ignored the teaching machine and drifted away in her own thoughts about firebirds. She dreamt about their long necks and curved down beaks. Suddenly, the buzzer went off.
- Melanie! Wait!
- Melanie was ecstatic because she was going to the Natural Park to see birds and maybe even firebirds! But is took a lot of persuasion from her Mom and Dad.
- Melanie wait!
- Years ago we had real flamingos, but visitors got too close and all the birds died of poisoning. So, we put plastic ones because we thought people should at least see what flamingos looked like.
- Rising Action
- Goodbye...
- Melanie couldn't contain her excitement so she ran ahead of her parents and the caretaker to find the firebirds.
- Climax
- After searching and searching, Melanie finally found a firebird. The beautiful firebird's feathers were as red as flames. She reached out to touch it because she knew this was her only chance. But the bird only cold and hard which simply floated in the water. It was made out of plastic and Melanie began to cry.

- Melanie cried and cried and cried. But she stopped crying after a while, picked up the flamingo and whispered goodbye.
