  • How did the colonists protest the Stamp Act?
  • In 1766 the Declaratory Act was passed. It allows British colonies/parliament to have the authority to tax American colonies. It gave the British the power to enforce laws.
  • Why was sugar and molasses so important that made the american colonists upset?
  • One of the taxes Parliament put on the colonists was the Stamp Act, which taxed almost all printed materials by needing a stamp to show payment.
  • If you are going to tax things we need, then we just won't buy them! We are making a change!
  • In March of 1765 the Stamp Act was passed. It required all colonists to attach stamps to newspaper and legal documents. The newspapers and journalists were enraged because they couldnt have a voice anymore. The British wanted to control their communication.
  • What did the British expect when creating this act?
  • In an attempt to raise funds after the French and Indian War in 1764, the British prime minister decided to tax the American people. They started taxing people for sugar and molasses sales/trades.

  • The people started to work together and attempt to make it their way. They protested, boycotted, made statements, and banned together to make a change.
  • The Towshend Act passed in 1767 taxed all imported goods going to American colonies. glass, paint, tea, lead, and paper were taxed. The British tightened their control over the Americans.
