Hey! My name is Augusta Savage. I was a sculptor in the Harlem Renaissance, and an influential artist.
I was born February 29, 1892, in Green Cove Springs FL. I love sculpting, I've been doing it ever since I was young. As a child I would use river clay to sculpt, and I put my education on the backburner, although my father didn't approve.
When I got older, I attended the Cooper Union Private Institute in NYC, and went on to attend the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Europe.
I grew up to be a portrait artist in the Harlem Renaissance. I also continued to break racist and sexist stereotypes. I have worked with many famous Harlem Renaissance artists.
Augusta died in 1962 from cancer, ending her sculpting career, but her legacy still stays strong in the heart of the Harlem Renaissance.
