- In the beginning of the chapter Bud hears someone step on a stick so he stands still and reached for his jack-knife in his pocket so he can stab the person in the heart. Then the person said " If you ain't a kid named Bud from the home im really sorry about jumping on you like this.
- In the middle of the chapter bud and bugs are on a mission to find Hooperville to hop on the Chicago train. After a wile of walking they find Hooperville and they flip a coin to see who goes and asks for food.Then after eating they have to wash all the dishes with two other kids. Then Deza the girl asks Bud about his family and bud asks her about her family. Then Bud and Deza kiss each other.
- At the end of the chapter Bud wakes up to people screaming and then he saw police in front of the train him and bugs tried to get on the train but only bugs made it on.Then bud saw police burning the pots and plates in the fire so he leaves Hooperville. When bud makes it to the library the librarian tells him she has a surprise for him and gives him a book. At night bud starts his mission to find his father at Grand Rapids.
