The opening scene sets an idea that the Capulet's and the Montague's are enemies for some unresolved reason in the past. It also demonstrates that it is not the first time that had happened and for that reason the prince walks in saying that if they fought again he would kill Capulet and Montague for disturbing peace in Verona. So, that sets a rival or an enemy that might explain the feud of the play.

In this scene Romeo goes to his enemy ball, Capulet's, because on the guest list it said that his former love, Rosaline was gonna be there. But as soon as he saw Juliet it was all about her, he fell in love with her at first sight, and she did too, none of them knew they were the enemies family. He fell so hard for her that as soon as he met her they kissed.
